BollyStep

Context

BollyStep is a fast-growing digital product that connects organizers for South Asian events to a repository of dances produced by choreographers worldwide.

My Role

My responsbilites as the sole UI/UX team member:

Owned the design process for 50+ desktop UI screens for key user flows using Figma, improving visual consistency and reducing cognitive load across the app.
Led the redesign of the client-facing website in Figma/Framer, exemplifying mastery in UX principles and prototyping.
Delivered design recommendations backed by user insights, helping BollyStep prioritize
features for upcoming iterations of their advanced learning platform.
Worked with the Founder/CEO daily to translate functional requirements into user-centered design solutions.
Crafted several mediums of informational content including investor pitch decks, choreographer training decks, respective role welcome packets, and social media flyers.

Contributions

UI refinement and visual consistency

Problem: Inconsistent typography, spacing, and button styles across screens
My contribution: Assisted in refining UI elements and aligning screens with a more cohesive visual language
Outcome: Improved overall polish and readability across user-facing views

Designing under startup constraints

Problem: Rapid product iteration with limited time and resources
My contribution: Researched and produced quick design explorations and revisions based on founder feedback
Outcome: Enabled faster decision-making without blocking development progress

Before, What Can Be Improved?

Dense information: users could easily feel overwhelmed by text and color
Spacing: information feels cluttered and cramped, which can invoke confusion and turn away potential clients
Standardization: Lack of cohesion = stressed developers

After, Why This is Optimal for Users.

Drop-down menu implementation (not pictured): easy, accessible navigation between roles
Information limited per page: enhances congition and limits overwhelm
Standardized spacing: auto-layout makes visuals more digestible for user + speedier developer hand-off

Reflection

My time at BollyStep enhanced my ability to work under real-world constraints and deliver exceptional product design under ambiguous requirements. I learned how quickly user experience decisions can pivot in a start-up environment in balancing client needs and founder requests. Maintaining schedule and design flexibility, time management, and empathy across persons involved were all components essential to my success at BollyStep.
