How Might We... simplify and modernize the car repair process for busy drivers by making it more transparent, trustworthy, and convenient?

Research & Discovery

We conducted in-depth user interviews to discover the current pain points of beach parking around Los Angeles. Across the board, our team found that users had three main issues:

Lack of trust

"Price-gouging"

Inefficient and outdated communication.

Designing

Low-Fidelity Wireframes

  1. We developed three core functionalities: Search, Contribute, Forums, and User Profile. Also created Home Page and User Profile sections.
  2. Linear navigational structure.

Usability Testing

Our group of four conducted three usability tests each to assess the functionality of our low-fidelity wireframes. We found that linear navigation was monotonous to users, who much preferred a global navigation system. The early draft of our color palette/style guide was tweaked due to accessibility concerns.

Prototyping

High-Fidelity Prototype

I implemented suggested changes from our usability to inform the final look for our app.

  • Integrated a global navigation bar to simplify app functionality and improved user understanding.
  • Incorporated interactive elements such as "Warning Light Selector," "Mechanic Map," and "Two-Minute Reads" to streamline the user journey.
  • Softened colors and typography for greater user accesibility.
  • Incorporated a mechanic/user messaging system.

Outcome

To summarize our team's strides in promoting a more streamlined mechanic service, we collaborated on a designing presentation highlighting our project's journey. We delivered our final presentation and clickable prototype to the founder of the real app, PairX. We informed the founder of the app's perceived strengths and adjustments our team made, but also recieved notable positive and constructive feedback.
